The Sacramento Kings continue to make history — just not in the way anyone in the organization or fans would want.

Through 60 games, the Kings have already lost eight games by 30 points or more. Eight. That’s the most in a single season in franchise history.

To put that in perspective, the infamous 2008-09 Sacramento Kings — the group that finished 17-65 and is widely considered the worst team of the Sacramento era — had seven losses of 30-plus all year.

This year’s team has already surpassed that mark with more than 20 games still to play.

The Sacramento Kings have lost more games by 30+ points this season than in any other year in franchise history.

The only other Sacramento Kings seasons even close? 1988-89 (five such losses), and you have to go back to the early ‘70s — the Cincinnati and Kansas City days — to round out the top five. This isn’t just a rough stretch. It’s unprecedented.

And zoom out league-wide, it gets worse.

According to the Associated Press’ Josh Dubow, the 2025-26 Kings and Washington Wizards are just two of five teams in NBA history to lose by 30 or more eight times within their first 60 games of a season.

The others: the 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats (who finished 7-59 in the lockout-shortened season), the 1990-91 Denver Nuggets, and the 1970-71 Cleveland Cavaliers.

That’s the company.

Of course, this isn’t the first record that the 2025-26 Kings have accomplished. Sacramento lost 17 straight games from January 18th through February 21st, going over a month without a win.

The Kings’ 17-game losing streak surpassed the 1971-72 and 1959-60 Cincinnati Royals for the longest losing streak since the team was founded in 1923.

It’s not all bad for the Sacramento Kings, though. They currently own the worst record in the NBA, giving them a 52.1% chance of landing a top-four pick and a 14.0% chance of winning May’s NBA Draft Lottery.
