Keegan Murray set an NBA rookie record with 206 3-point goals during his first season with the Sacramento Kings.

That record now belongs to Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel, who has emerged as a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year after coming out of Duke as the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NBA draft.

Knueppel made eight 3-pointers in a 133-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday to break Murray’s single-season rookie record. Knueppel has made 209 3-pointers this season, eclipsing the record Murray set while helping Sacramento reach the playoffs in 2022-23.

Murray broke the record in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 29, 2023. Murray scored 13 points with three 3-pointers in a 120-80 victory to help the Kings clinch their first playoff berth since 2006, ending the longest playoff drought in NBA history.

The record previously belonged to Damian Lillard, who made 185 3-pointers as a rookie with the Blazers in 2012-13, and Donovan Mitchell, who made 187 for the Utah Jazz in 2017-18.

Knueppel is having a stellar rookie campaign, averaging 19.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 48.9% from the field and 43.6% from 3-point range. He is challenging former college teammate Cooper Flagg for the Rookie of the Year award.

Flagg, who was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the No. 1 pick in the draft, is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He is shooting 48.2% from the field and 30.2% from beyond the arc.
