Spring may officially start on March 20 this year, but people who count the fuzziest, petal-powerful, soft-breeziest season as their favorite of the four know that spring’s zing truly revs up in late April.

The poets of old, and the truth-tellers of now, had/have it just about right: The world can be wondrous in the days leading up to May, and if you happen to be on a bike, and you’re pedaling along roads that are free of cars, the season can wash over you with a lovely sense of sunny sublimeness.

Thank the hardworking team at CicLAvia, the come-cycle-along-car-free-streets phenomenon, for understanding our late-in-April obsessions.

The very first open streets celebration of 2026 is set to lift the kickstand and roll through West LA April 26, the final Sunday of the month.

The announcement comes a bit later in the year compared to previous kick-offs, and CicLAvia fans may have been curious as to when an official release would be made.

“CicLAvia Sundays are made possible through strong partnerships with cities and public agencies,” shared Roman Pascual, CicLAvia Executive Director in a note included with the West LA revelation.

“With many communities already facing budget challenges and with multiple mega-events coming to the region, planning requires extra time and care.”

Better late, oh yes, and the April date gives us time to shine up our spokes and dress our handlebars in ribbons, a fitting springtime decoration.

Spotlighting Local Gems is a CicLAvia tradition, so watch for West LA artworks, restaurants, and attractions to get their due on the event site in the weeks to come.

If you’d like to join the April 26 CicLAvia, it begins at 9 a.m. and will cover three miles of both Santa Monica and Westwood Boulevards.

The map is live on the site, if you’d like to know where to go (and you can arrive at any point on the route; there’s no true beginning or end).

But we may hear of more open streets events before April or the easy, breezy, sunshine-squeezy ride: The CicLAvia team will keep fans notified “as plans develop,” so fingers and handlebars crossed that a 2026 event will land in a town or neighborhood near you.
