BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A grand re-opening of the Baker Street Branch Library took place Thursday in Old Town Kern.
After waiting for 6 months, the community will finally be welcomed to return to the historic library on Friday.
The library closed back in May 2025 for improvements. Now the public can enjoy a more accessible and refreshing space.
“New flooring, we had the windows tinted to help against the heat, we’re now ADA compliant, so we are now accessible,” said Rafael Moreno, with the Baker Branch Library. “We now have a ramp in the back entrance so people can come into the library.”
The floor plan has also opened up the library’s interior to improve the flow for public programs.
Regular library services and hours have now resumed and expanded programming will roll out in the coming weeks.
