BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Drivers in Bakersfield should plan for a series of road and freeway closures beginning Monday, March 2, including multiple overnight shutdowns around the Highway 99 and Highway 58 interchange on Wednesday, March 4 and two weeks of work on Elcia Drive.
Elcia Drive, March 2:
Starting Monday, March 2, Elcia Drive east of S. Real Road will be closed to traffic for two weeks while utility work is completed in the area. Parking will be restricted within the work zone, but driveway access for residents along Elcia Drive will be permitted. Elcia Drive west of S. Real Road is not expected to be impacted.
Ming Avenue on-ramp to Hwy. 99, March 4:
The Ming Avenue on-ramp to northbound Highway 99/westbound Highway 58 will be fully closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. as crews install a crash cushion. During the closure, drivers will be detoured to northbound Wible Road from Ming Avenue, continue north along Wible Road/Oak Street to California Avenue, turn left (west) onto California Avenue, then enter the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp.
NB Hwy. 99 to WB Hwy. 58 interchange/Hwy. 99 closure, March 4:
The northbound Highway 99 to westbound Highway 58 connector will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as crews install a crash cushion. During the closure, drivers may enter eastbound Highway 58, exit at H Street, travel north, then enter the westbound Highway 58 on-ramp. A nighttime lane closure is also planned for the far right lane of northbound Highway 99.
EB Hwy. 58 bridge at Hwy. 99, March 4:
A full overnight closure of the eastbound Highway 58 bridge at Highway 99 is planned from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. as crews remove shoring material. During the closure, drivers will be detoured to southbound Highway 99, exit at White Lane, and turn left (east) on White Lane, then enter the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp and exit right to eastbound Highway 58.
Construction work may be postponed and rescheduled without notice due to inclement weather and other unforeseen conditions, said the city.
