LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Los Angeles radio legend Uncle Joe Benson has died at the age of 76, it was announced Friday.

Benson died early Tuesday following a battle with Parkinson’s disease and related complications, according to a post on his Facebook page.

“For almost 60 years he graced the radio airwaves with his signature deep voice and extensive Rock ‘N Roll knowledge like no one else,” the post read.

Benson spent more than 30 years at 95.5 KLOS. He also worked for a time at KLSX, then moved to morning drive shifts at Arrow 93.1 and 100.3 The Sound before finishing his career on Ultimate Classic Rock streaming worldwide from 2018 until 2024.

KLOS called Benson “a man of the people and a friend to all.”

“His life was full of incredible stories that involved pretty much every single rockstar ever. Everybody knew Joe!” KLOS said in a post on social media.

“Thank you Joe for being a voice to Los Angeles and for spreading your love of rock and roll to all of us. KLOS is lucky to have been your home for 30 years. You will be so missed by all.”

KNX traffic reporter Sioux-z Jessup, a friend and former colleague, described him as “every musician’s best friend.”

“The one thing I will say about Joe is he loves music. He was passionate about music,” she said.

Benson is survived by his wife and two children.
