Mr. Dugan teaches music at Sylvan Middle School in Sacramento, CA.
Citrus Heights, Ca. — ABC10, in partnership with SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union and Sacramento State’s College of Education, is proud to announce Mica Dugan as Teacher of the Month for March 2026. Mr. Dugan teaches K-12 at Sylvan Middle School in Citrus Heights, CA. In place for 20+ years, Teacher of the Month is one of ABC10’s signature community enrichment initiatives designed to highlight local teachers making a difference in the lives of their students and families.
Dugan has been teaching for 18 years. His nominator says, “Mr. Dugan has been involved in music education for elementary, middle and high school students. He also contributes to music in the community by his involvement with the Sacramento Jazz Foundation. My son thrived by being involved in Mr. Dugan’s jazz band in elementary school and piano in high school.”
Dugan’s advice for parents is, “Be involved in your child’s education; it does stop when they leave school. Never hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher; we are a team!” His advice for teachers is, “Building relationships with your students is key to success. The first 5 years are also the hardest so push through, it gets more manageable!”
As part of being recognized as Teacher of the Month, Mr. Dugan will receive $1,000 from SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union and will be eligible for the title of Teacher of the Year – that includes a $5,000 prize – which will be announced in Spring 2026.
