The UC San Diego women’s basketball team climbed back into a tie for its conference lead Saturday afternoon, while San Diego State defeated Wyoming 70-51 to finish a 14-1 home season at Viejas Arena.

UCSD’s 85-61 win over Cal Poly coupled with UC Irvine’s 70-62 loss to UC Santa Barbara means there’s now a deadlock atop the Big West Conference standings.

Both the Tritons (20-8, 15-3) and Anteaters (24-5, 15-3) have two regular-season games remaining before the Big West Tournament.

Guard Makayla Rose (16 points, three steals) and forward Eric Condron (15 points, 12 rebounds, three steals) paced UCSD’s wire-to-wire victory over the Mustangs (3-25, 1-17). Guards Rosa Smith and freshman Lev Feiman scored 12 points apiece for the Tritons, who extended their program record for Big West wins in a season.

Meanwhile, the Mountain West champion Aztecs improved to 24-4 overall and 18-1 in conference play with their seventh straight win. Their only home loss this season was to Santa Clara (72-47) back on Nov. 19.

“Being dominant on our home court was one of our goals this season,” said San Diego State coach Stacie Terry-Hutson.

Guard Naomi Panganiban (La Jolla Country Day) led the Aztecs with 20 points, while guard Kaelyn Hamilton added 18 points and three steals off the bench. The Aztecs went 9-for-13 on 3-point attempts, with Panganiban going 4-for-7 and Hamilton 3-for-3.

The Aztecs put together runs of 16-0 in the first half and 13-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

“The consistent thing to this season is we win when we share the ball and play as an unselfish team,” Terry-Hutson said in reference to the Aztecs’ two decisive runs.

Guard Nala Williams had six of the Aztecs’ 15 assists. The Aztecs forced Wyoming into 20 turnovers and finished with 11 steals.
