The Milpitas Police Department (MPD) and Milpitas Fire Department (MFD) made national news this week for a heroic rescue carried out last weekend…

Last Saturday, around 3:15pm, a local resident called 911 from her apartment on South Park Victoria Drive, frantically explaining that she and her family were trapped by a fire and didn’t know where it was coming from.

Milpitas cops rolled up a little over 90 seconds later to find the woman, her male partner, their 3-year-old toddler, and their dog packed onto a second-story balcony while all around them the building was engulfed by flames.

Emotional video captured by MPD shows an officer looking up and saying, “Where’s the baby? Throw her! Throw her!”

A long moment passes. You can then see the baby landing in the officer’s arms. “I got her, I got her!” the officer exclaims.

Next comes the dog, whose landing is slightly less smooth, connecting haphazardly with the officer’s awaiting hands, but still safe nonetheless.

MFD personnel used a ladder to help get the adults down before the fire was eventually put out. Nobody was reported to be injured in the incident.Â
