Asian Garden Mall is a feast for the belly and the eyes.

Opening its doors in 1987, this Westminster mall quickly became a vital hub for the Vietnamese community that settled in Orange County following the fall of Saigon. Today, it stands as one of the most visually captivating shopping centers. Just look at it: green-tiled roofs, bright red paper lanterns and those soaring red pagoda eaves towering above the floor-to-ceiling glass entrance. Right at the entrance, you will find statues, including the three deities — Phước, Lộc and Thọ — who give the mall its Vietnamese name, Phước Lộc Thọ.

With hundreds of stores and services, Asian Garden Mall is a bustling place for the famished. As you walk in the front entrance, guests are greeted by the horseshoe-shaped food court. This is where the dining adventure begins, offering a choice array of Vietnamese and Chinese fare, plus a mini-market overflowing with snacks and drinks.

Many items are ready to order to-go, which is perfect for grabbing and heading upstairs. Once there, you can enjoy the gorgeous wood-beamed ceilings and perhaps a moment of calm at the shrine dedicated to the Chinese general Quan Vũ. Even better, snag one of the semi-private tiled bench seats over the main floor — it’s the best spot for people-watching. (Psst: During the summer months, be sure to check out the mall’s open-air night market.)

Signature Myra’s Kitchen

The standout star of Asian Garden Mall’s roster of eateries, Signature Myra’s Kitchen, a family-owned-and-operated spot, features a menu of Vietnamese standards like chicken rice and an impressive lineup of pho. Highlights include a beef noodle soup (bún bò huế) and a vermicelli crab soup (bún riêu). “This is the one we are really, really proud of, the one people ask for all the time,” said Vu Dinh, operations manager of Signature Myra’s Kitchen.

Another deceptively simple dish is the chicken rice (cơm gà) featuring an intact leg and thigh accompanied by a flavorful, crimson half dome of rice. Other items include squid congee, shatteringly crisp fried egg rolls (chả giò) and  butter glazed chicken (gà chiên bơ), to name a few.
