OAKLAND — A woman has been charged with pandering a 15-year-old girl who was trafficked after leaving her group home, court records show.
Kamaria Nelson, 25, was charged with pandering and robbing the girl, who police say left her group home last year in the company of another teen, two women, and an adult who allegedly coerced her into prostitution. In December, a social worker alerted Oakland police and filed a human trafficking report, authorities said.
Nelson was charged in late January and is next due in court on March 9 for a preliminary hearing, records show. She pleaded not guilty and was released from jail on Jan. 28, after posting $10,000 bail, records show.
In court filings, Oakland police say the adults pressured the girl into sex work, with Nelson allegedly “assisting” the trafficker, who hasn’t been charged, court records show. Nelson’s role included stealing “clothing and condoms” from a Target for the girl to use. The girl told police she was paid $100 for someone to look at her feet but wasn’t sexually abused during the ordeal, authorities said.
Nelson allegedly struck the girl and took a bag full of clothing from her after she requested to go back to her group home, police said in court filings.
