(FOX40.COM) — Officers with the Sacramento Police Department took a suspect into custody Monday night following a brief vehicle pursuit through downtown Sacramento.
According to Sacramento police, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop just before 8:15 p.m. after spotting a vehicle driving recklessly near the intersection of Sixth and I streets. However, when the driver failed to stop, it prompted officers to initiate a pursuit.

Sacramento police said the chase ended a short time later after a PIT maneuver and a spike strip were deployed.
Police stated that the car eventually ran through the sallyport doors at Sacramento County Main Jail, where the suspect then fled on foot. SPD said the suspect was quickly arrested by officers.
Sacramento police reported a pedestrian was struck during the pursuit. No serious injuries reported.
SPD stated the pedestrian appeared to have run into the street to engage the suspect while it was driving recklessly.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
