LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State freshman opposite Wojciech Gajek has been named Big West Freshman of the Week after leading the Beach to a 2-0 sweep of CUI.
Gajek delivered a dominant all-around performance across seven sets, totaling 24 kills while hitting .486 (24-7-35) and averaging 3.43 kills per set. He also averaged a team-best 4.79 points per set, adding eight service aces, five digs, and three total blocks in the pair of victories.
In the 3-1 road win, Gajek recorded 12 kills and exploded for eight service aces, applying consistent service pressure that disrupted CUI’s offensive rhythm. He followed with another 12-kill performance in the 3-0 home sweep, hitting an exceptional .786 (12-1-14) while committing just one error on 14 swings. His efficiency in the finale helped Long Beach State post a .530 team attack percentage in the match.
Across the two contests, Gajek accounted for 33.5 total points and played a central role in the Beach hitting .428 as a team while averaging 12.43 kills per set. His production came in all phases, scoring in transition, terminating in-system opportunities, and generating points from the service line.
The honor marks the first Big West Freshman of the Week award of Gajek’s career and highlights his immediate impact in the Beach lineup.
