Oakland County man arrested after several license plate cameras ‘smashed to pieces’

  • March 3, 2026

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Clarkston man is facing felony charges after allegedly smashing several license plate cameras to pieces.

Spencer Anderson, 24, of Clarkston, was charged with three counts of malicious destruction of police property.

Waterford police learned on Feb. 23 that their Automatic License Plate Readers within the township were no longer active. Officers discovered that the license plate readers were forcibly broken from their mounts and “smashed to pieces.”

Although the license plate readers were damaged, police said one of the cameras captured an image of the car and its license plate driven by the suspect just before the cameras were damaged.

Video footage from a nearby business also captured a person exiting the car and using a blunt instrument to hit two license plate cameras until they broke off their mounts.

After further investigation, Waterford police arrested Anderson.

The 24-year-old was arraigned on Feb. 27 and was released on a $500 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 11 at 8:30 a.m. for a probable cause conference.
