Multiple lanes of southbound Interstate 805 were closed early Tuesday after a semi-truck caught on fire in the Mission Valley area.

The fire was reported at around 6:10 a.m. on I-805 near the Interstate 8 freeway just south of Murray Ridge Road.

The California Highway Patrol said all lanes will be closed for about five hours. There is heavy traffic in the area, and the CHP advised drivers to divert to SR-163 if they wanted to continue going southbound.

Traffic on the northbound I-805 is backed up from SR-54 to I-8. Drivers are advised to utilize alternate routes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
