The case against a male nanny facing multiple sex crime charges has advanced to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial.

Judge Diane D’Agostini of 48th District Court bound the case over on Tuesday after the accused, Michael Alan Bank, waived his right to a preliminary exam scheduled for that day.

Bank, 58, is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of child sexually abusive activity-aggravated possession and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

The case unfolded when Northfield Township police contacted the West Bloomfield Police Department in early January about criminal sexual assault allegations involving a young child with ties to West Bloomfield, Young stated in a news release. The alleged victim’s mother had hired Bank as a nanny through sittercity.com, and it was subsequently alleged that he repeatedly engaged in criminal sexual conduct with the child, who was under 13 years old at the time, Young stated.

The investigation included analysis of items seized when police searched a home in the 6800 block of Aeroview Street in West Bloomfield in January. According to Police Chief Dale Young, an ongoing investigation indicates Bank was a live-in caregiver for “a person with a medical condition” at the Aeroview Street home when he was arrested there on Jan. 15.

Bank’s court record lists March 31, 2024 as the date of offense.

Detectives have since discovered “a multitude of evidence of children including what appeared to be Michael Bank with some of those children in various compromised positions and acts,” as stated in a news release.

Bank is scheduled to be arraigned before Judge Mary Ellen Brennan on March 13. For now, he’s held in the Oakland County Jail, denied bond.

Bank is also facing similar sex crime charges in Washtenaw County, filed a couple weeks after the Oakland County case emerged.

According to the sittercity.com website, the company offers “detailed sitter profiles” to those seeking its services. “The information you need to determine if a sitter is a qualified candidate for your family: from work history and qualifications to background check status, references and rates,” the website states.
