ROCHESTER, Mich. –  Head coach Brian Nelson and Oakland Baseball are staying in SEC territory, set to face the No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium for a midweek match up on Wednesday, March 4. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.

The boys in Black and Gold saw improvement at the plate, on the mound, and in the field, despite dropping the series at No. 9/11 Georgia last weekend. Sophomore Aidan Schuck had a good weekend at the plate, picking up four hits and hitting .308 with a double and four RBIs in all four games. From the mound, freshman Ben Green had a solid 5.0 innings of work, picking up four strikeouts and allowing three runs off of six hits with his first career start.

Game 1 (Fri, Feb. 27): Georgia 16, Oakland 6  (7inn.)

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies fell to the No. 9/11 Georgia Bulldogs with a decisive 16-6 defeat on Friday at Foley Field. Despite the loss, Oakland produced eight hits and scored across five innings. Georgia’s offense proved overpowering with five home runs and a crucial eight-run fifth inning that cemented its lead. Sophomore Aidan Schuck recorded three RBIs and added two hits, including a double, in the game. Junior Aidan Orr contributed by crossing home plate and collecting two hits while also driving in a run. Sophomore Sam Patton matched that effort with a run scored, two hits, and an RBI. On the pitching side, redshirt-sophomore reliever Luke Riggs delivered a clean inning, allowing no hits and striking out a batter.

Game 2 (Saturday, Feb. 28): Georgia 17, Oakland 0 (7inn.)

Oakland fell behind early in a 17-0 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs after a seven-run second inning set the tone for the game. Kyle Revere led Oakland at the plate with two hits, including a double, while Ben Clark doubled and walked, and Boston Halloran added a hit and two assists in the field. Georgia continued to build its lead with an RBI double in the third, two solo home runs in the fourth, and a two-run homer in the fifth before adding a final run in the sixth. George Hansen made his first career start for Oakland, pitching 1.1 innings, with Camden Cooper, Josh Rosenblitt and Tagertt Dillard combining in relief as the Bulldogs’ offense totaled 17 runs on the afternoon.

Game 3 (Saturday, Feb. 28): Georgia 11, Oakland 0 (7inn.)

OU dropped game two to the Georgia Bulldogs after Georgia jumped out early with a two-run homer in the first and never looked back. Kyle Revere anchored the defense with five assists at shortstop, while Lucas Day added a hit at the plate. The Bulldogs extended their lead with an inside-the-park home run in the third and broke the game open with a seven-run fourth before adding a final run on a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Tanner Ware started for Oakland, tossing three innings, while Andrew Landis struck out two in relief and Owen Thomson delivered a scoreless frame as Daniel Duley and Wyatt Ruppenthal also saw action on the mound.

Game 4 (Sunday, Mar. 1): Georgia 4, Oakland 3

The Golden Grizzlies battled well, but fell to No. 9/11 Georgia (10-2, 0-0 SEC) in a closely contested 4-3 game on Sunday at Foley Field. The Golden Grizzlies took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the first two innings, but the Bulldogs responded with three runs in the third inning and added another in the seventh. Despite a late run in the ninth inning, Oakland’s rally fell short. The Golden Grizzlies’ pitching staff recorded seven strikeouts, but Georgia’s long balls proved decisive in the matchup. Sophomore Aidan Schuck recorded two hits and drove in a run, contributing with a stolen base as well as redshirt-sophomore Lucas Day added a hit and an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Junior Ben Clark finished with two hits and reached base three times, scoring a run. Impressive on the mound, freshman Ben Green pitched five innings, striking out four, and only allowing three earned runs.

SCOUTING THE VOLUNTEERS

In the top 25 in all major college baseball polls this season, first-year head coach Josh Elander and the Volunteers went 2-1 at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field last weekend, winning its final two games against Arizona State and Virginia Tech after falling to top-ranked UCLA on Friday. UT’s pitching staff racked up 30 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .237 average during its three games in Arlington, holding Arizona State to three runs and Virginia Tech to just one run on three hits.

OU and Tennessee have met four times prior in program history: a single game in Knoxville in 2005, and a three-game weekend series with the Volunteers in 2006. UT holds the all-time record at 4-0.
