A last-ditch 3-pointer by CJ Hardy fell short.

After a four-game, six-day road trip in which the Bakersfield Condors went 1-3 against three top-five teams in the American Hockey League’s Pacific Division, perhaps it will do them well to be playing a 10:30 a.m. home game Tuesday against one of those teams — Colorado — again.

Over the weekend, the Condors lost a 3-2 overtime game Saturday at fifth-place Coachella Valley and then dropped a 4-2 game Sunday to division-leading Ontario. Prior to those decisions, the Condors (28-17-8) split a pair of games with the Colorado Eagles, including an overtime win in the second game.

The Condors left Bakersfield last week alone in third place, but only got three of a potential eight points on the road trip. They now trail Ontario (72 points), Colorado (69) and San Jose (66) in the standings with 65 points. Coachella Valley has 61.

Tuesday’s game against the Eagles at Dignity Health Arena serves as the Condors’ annual Field Day Trip in which local school children get to spend the morning on an educational trip to see a live hockey game.
