FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — The expanded space is a huge boost not just for Valley Caregiver Resource Center, but also for the older adult population.

Executive Director Meghan Velasquez says that with their additional space, they will be able to offer more specialized and innovative care.

“It doesn’t feel like a small nook,” she said. “They have this huge space to make it their own.”

The Oasis Adult Day Center is a place for people with dementia to find friendships and enjoy stimulating projects and pastimes.

The new space includes an art room, more conversation areas and an activity space.

The outside patio also got a new look and was upgraded with retractable awnings.

“Making sure our participants have the opportunity to get out, get fresh air and enjoy the sunshine is good for all of us,” Velasquez said.

Getting the project off the ground took several years. The cost was just shy of $1 million.

Construction for the expanded center began in Spring 2025.

“Often, our senior community feels pushed aside, unseen and unheard,” Velasquez said. “This new space makes them feel valued.”

It’s not only the space that’s getting expanded.

“We’re also looking to build a Spanish-speaking program, so not to just translate our services, but to offer programs in Spanish to that community,” Velasquez said.

Valley Caregiver Resource Center plans to have a ribbon-cutting for the expanded space in April.
