Cal’s School-Record Holder Will Appear On National Stage For 1st Time
California track & field’s Ali Sahaida has been selected to compete at next week’s NCAA Indoor Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday. The meet will take place from March 13-14 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with Sahaida’s event (women’s pole vault) scheduled for 2 p.m. PT/4 p.m. CT on the second day of competition.
Â
Sahaida, who currently ranks No. 12 in the nation, had an historic indoor regular season, going undefeated with four consecutive event titles. Earlier this month, Sahaida posted the best mark by a female Cal pole vaulter in history (indoors or outdoors) with an eight-inch personal best of 4.49m (14-8.25) at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic and was named the ACC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. She earned her first all-conference honors this past Saturday at the ACC Indoor Championships, finishing third overall with a mark of 4.45m (14-7.25).
Â
She will be the first women’s pole vaulter to represent Cal at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Allison Stokke in 2011 and just the third overall.
