If you can’t find a path to win, get out.

That’s the unusual request from the chair of the California Democratic Party to more than half a dozen fellow Democrats running for governor.

The crowded field to success Gov. Gavin Newsom includes nine big name Democrats. But polls show only a few gaining any real traction with voters.

Now the party is concerned the large number of Democratic candidates will fracture the vote and give Republicans an edge in the open primary.
