A convicted sex offender who absconded from supervision is back in custody in Nevada following a joint investigation by the Nevada State Police and the United States Marshals Service.

Authorities say Jonas Ortiz was arrested Nov. 13, 2025, in San Francisco, California, by the U.S. Marshals Service. Ortiz was wanted in Nevada for a parole violation after absconding from supervision in May 2025.

Ortiz was convicted of sexual assault of a minor under 14 and first-degree kidnapping on March 22, 1990. He was sentenced to 60 months to life in prison.

A joint fugitive investigation conducted by the Nevada State Police Division of Parole and Probation’s Warrants and Extraditions Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Nevada Violent Offender Task Force in Reno led to his arrest.
