SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A city smoking ordinance violation in San Mateo led to the arrest of a San Francisco man on Monday, after officers discovered suspected methamphetamine, pepper spray, and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Nathan McGill, 39, was detained by a San Mateo Police Department officer patrolling the area of Concar Drive and Pacific Boulevard around 10:31 p.m. when the officer observed McGill and a second individual violating a city smoking ordinance, police said.
A records check identified McGill and revealed he was on searchable probation. During the search, officers found methamphetamine in one of McGill’s pants pockets and a canister of pepper spray was also located, police said.
Due to multiple prior drug-related convictions, McGill is prohibited from possessing both the controlled substance and pepper spray, police said. Additionally, officers said they found drug paraphernalia inside his personal bag.
McGill was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance with two or more prior convictions, unlawful possession of pepper spray, and possession of unlawful paraphernalia.
The second person detained at the scene was released.
