LOS ANGELES, CA — Traffic slowed to a crawl through downtown Los Angeles Wednesday around noon due to a fatality on the 110 Freeway.
Authorities first responded to the area of Sixth Street and the 110 Freeway just before 10:30 a.m. for a death investigation, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
According to unconfirmed reports, a person may have jumped from an overpass onto the freeway. Both the LAPD and California Highway Patrol spokesmen said they were unable to confirm such accounts.
An X user posted a photo showing an empty stretch of the freeway where police officers had gathered near a white tent, which are frequently used by authorities to cover bodies.
Authorities closed three lanes of the southbound 110 Freeway by 11:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Only the left lane of the freeway remained open between the Third/Fourth street and Fifth/Sixth streets exits as of noon. Traffic was backed up to Stadium Way, according to a Sigalert.
Motorists were advised to expect delays of up to an hour.
