The San Diego Wave have signed the daughter of former San Diego State and U.S. National Team soccer star Eric Wynalda to a short-term contract.

Midfielder Tatum Wynalda has agreed to an injury-replacement contract that will keep her with the Wave through the end of April. A Thousand Oaks native, Wynalda starred and Westlake High School and Pepperdine University, where she scored 23 goals and logged 17 assists in 79 college matches. She was a first-team All-West Coast Conference pick as both a junior and senior.

Wynalda is the first National Women’s Soccer League player to have a father who competed in Major League Soccer. Eric Wynalda played in the league from 1994-2008, part of a hall-of-fame career. He played at San Diego State from 1987-89, leading the Aztecs to the NCAA Championship Game in his first season. He also played for semipro San Diego Nomads before embarking on a pro career.

The Wave open their 2026 season on May 14 against the Houston Dash at Snapdragon Stadium.
