Yamaha Corp. of America (YCA), the Buena Park-based maker of musical instruments and sound gear, has appointed Seiichi Yamaguchi as its new president, effective April 1.

Yamaguchi is currently the managing executive officer and executive general manager of the Musical Instruments Business Unit of Yamaha Corp., the parent music and sound company headquartered in Japan.

His career at Yamaha began in 1985 and includes international leadership roles such as chairman and managing director of Yamaha Music and Electronics China and Managing Director of Yamaha Scandinavia. Yamaguchi has also been Yamaha Corp.’s managing officer and general manager of its Musical Instruments and Audio Sales Unit and in New York City, he established a digital sheet music venture called Yamaha Music Interactive.

Yamaguchi will succeed current YCA President Tom Sumner, who will retire in late 2026 after holding the top role in Buena Park since 2018.

“I am looking forward to working with the great team at YCA to expand the brand’s reach in the United States,” Yamaguchi said in a statement, adding that he knows “Yamaha can make an even bigger and better impact on the lives of U.S. musicians and educators.”

Yamaha last year moved into a newly built 75,263-square-foot, two-story office building at its 14-acre corporate campus in Buena Park that houses about 350 local employees.
