LONG BEACH — When she was a wide-eyed freshman, Long Beach Wilson sprinter Brooke Blue, who is now a senior, said she did not know what she was getting herself into.
However, Blue quickly realized her own and the team’s elite potential.
That potential has translated into a historic reality. The Bruins have won three straight CIF state titles but she knows four would be even better.
The Wilson girls track team held a championship ring ceremony Tuesday and is aiming to win a record fourth consecutive CIF State title this season.
“When you’re doing something great, people will just get in your way and try whatever they can to mess it up,” Blue said. “So just knowing that that’s going to happen and we have to block all that out and just stay positive and stay on track.”
Blue, who helped Wilson win state titles as a freshman, sophomore and junior, signed to run Division I track at UNLV in November.

Meanwhile, the champion recognition ceremony was also an opportunity for New Balance to announce a new apparel partnership with the Wilson track and field program.
Wilson coach Shannon Fisher said the partnership is a positive reflection of the program’s state.
“The program represents the institution of Wilson in a bright light,” Fisher explained. “If you shine bright enough, people will see you.”
Fisher was also recognized as the 2025 California girls track and field coach of the year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He won the same award for the 2024 season.
“It means that we’re being seen not just in the state but across the country,” Fisher said.
The pursuit of a fourth straight state title between now and May 30 is not lost on Fisher.
However, he said the Bruins will remain steadfast.
“It’s going to take work,” Fisher explained. “We work hard. It’s hard to beat somebody who outworks you.”

New Balance donated more than $100,000 in gear to dozens of student-athletes, including spikes, training shoes, uniforms and warm-ups, according to officials.
Wilson is the only high school track and field program on the West Coast with a New Balance partnership.
Also attending the ceremony Tuesday was two-time Olympic gold medalist Vernon Norwood, a 400-meter specialist. Norwood has been sponsored by New Balance since 2015 after starring at LSU. He recently moved to Southern California to train under coach Joanna Hayes at UCLA ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
“Us getting involved with high school kids and the youth,” Norwood said, “I think that is very important because the youth is our future.”
