BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Pet owners in Bakersfield had a low-cost option to spay and neuter their animals on Wednesday when the “Snip Bus” mobile clinic made a stop at Heritage Park in east Bakersfield.
Organizers said the mobile clinic is aimed at bringing services closer to communities while working to prevent pet overpopulation in Kern County.
“We’re experiencing a pet crisis in Kern County. There are way too many animals and not enough homes, so spaying and neutering are two of the actions we take to control the population. So that each animal can find a home,” said Robbie Miller, the founder of SOS Dog Rescue.
Miller said they host their clinics anywhere between four and six times a week. An appointment can be made HERE.

Alvarez, a kitten owner who brought a pet to the clinic, pointed to the number of animals living on the streets and the importance of access to services. “There are so many strays, and sometimes they can get a little aggressive. A lot of people throw them out, so it’s important to get them fixed,” Alvarez said.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Chad Bianco also attended Wednesday’s clinic and spoke about the need for these types of services. Bianco, a Republican candidate for California governor, sat down with Eyewitness News for an interview on Tuesday.
