A go-to bakery for French-style loaves and croissants in the East Bay will be closing soon.
Feel Good Bakery announced that its final day in business will be Oct. 31. In a letter posted at its two Alameda locations and on its website, management did not disclose any specific reasons for closing, but that the choice came after considering the options available for the business. It operated for more than 22 years.
“We’ve had the opportunity and privilege of serving you and the entire Alameda community,” the letter reads. “Your kindness and support throughout the years have meant the world to us and each of you has contributed greatly to our success over the years.” Feel Good Bakery management did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Inside its two locations, at the Alameda Marketplace and in the Encinal Shopping Center, it offered a variety of whole-grain and sourdough loaves, as well as cakes; cookies; and laminated pastries, such as kouign-amann and stuffed croissants.
Monday morning’s clientele was saddened to learn of the closing. Jessica Lew has been a customer at the Encinal location for several years, where she picks up baguettes and macarons for her family. “They are leaving behind such a big space here,” she said. “They will be terribly missed.”
Crispian Bakery, which sells rustic loaves across the street from one of Feel Good’s locations, also lamented the closing. “I have thought of Feel Good as an elder brother ever since we opened,” its Instagram post reads. “I’ve always felt that having a high-quality bakery across the street from us has kept us on our toes.”
As part of Feel Good Bakery’s winding down of operations, pre-orders and online orders will no longer be available. Existing pre-orders will be refunded.
“While this part of our journey comes to an end, the memories and relationships we’ve built will remain something we will always cherish,” Feel good Bakery’s parting message reads.
