Bakersfield College offers to replace diplomas with spelling error

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Pobody’s nerfect — Bakersfield College is admitting to that big mistake that ended up on diplomas.

The college said it discovered a “typographical error” on a batch of diplomas and says it will correct it on affected graduates’ diplomas.

The affected diplomas included a misspelling of “Bakersfield.”

Bakersfield College said 2025 graduates will automatically receive updated diplomas. For graduates from 2023 through 2024, the college asks graduates to complete a form so it can issue a corrected one and to ensure it has updated contact information.

“We sincerely apologize for the oversight and thank our graduates for their patience as we work to properly honor your achievements,” the college said in a social media post Thursday evening.
