DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – A Douglas County man is facing life in prison after being found guilty of murdering a woman in 2023.

Dwayne Michael Lauka was convicted of killing Terry Lea Deane in her Oakland home on Coltrin Lane. Investigators revealed that in August 2023, family members discovered Deane with multiple cuts, stab wounds, and broken bones. Fingerprints at the scene pointed to Lauka, said the Douglas County District Attorney.

DCSO deputies and officers from the Sutherlin Police Department responded on Aug. 12, 2023 to a home on Coltrin Lane in Oakland for reports of a suspicious death. Deputies said they found Terry Lea Deane, 78, dead of an apparent homicide.  Lauka was identified as a suspect in Deane’s death and was arrested on Sept. 8, 2023 in Tualatin by law enforcement officers with multiple agencies.

Lauka is scheduled to be sentenced on March 12.
