A colorful baby red-tailed guenon monkey is reported to be thriving at California’s Oakland Zoo, with footage showing the adorable male infant clinging to his mother as she chowed down on lettuce.

According to the zoo, father Marley and mother Nonami were doing well, and little Tumbili (his name is Swahili for “monkey”) was nursing and “gaining confidence daily.”

Since Tumbili’s birth was announced on February 20, the mother and son “have been spending time on habitat, but are still enjoying the privacy of their night house often,” the Oakland Zoo said.

The first red-tailed gueron born at the facility, “Tumbili helps solidify social bonds and unite the troop around the shared goal of caring for and protecting him,” the zoo wrote on X. Credit: Oakland Zoo via Storyful
