A Cub Scout leader in San Luis Obispo County was arrested on March 5 for allegedly possessing child pornography.
On Feb. 17, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office began investigating claims that 46-year-old Michael Schmidt of Oceano, Calif. was in possession of child pornography. On the morning of March 5, detectives with the sheriff’s office served a search warrant at Schmidt’s home. During the search, Schmidt was taken into custody.
At the time of his arrest, Schmidt was working for the San Luis Obispo County Health Department’s information technology department. Investigators also determined that he was a Cub Scout leader in the Five Cities area of San Luis Obispo County.
Schmidt faces two counts of possessing material depicting the sexual conduct of a child, one count of possessing material depicting a minor under 14 years old in sex, and one count of possessing material depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct.
