Saturday was a maddening day at the park for LSU baseball.

The Tigers, after scoring 15 runs on six home runs and 10 extra-base hits on Friday, failed to record their second hit until the eighth inning on Saturday against Sacramento State in a matchup that they wound up losing 5-4.

The defeat was LSU’s third loss in four games, as it trailed 1-0 for the majority of the game.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: LSU will, in all likelihood, start sophomore right-hander William Schmidt. He tossed a shutout in 7⅓ innings in his last start against Dartmouth, allowing just four hits and no walks. His ERA for the year is down to 1.65. The Hornets’ win on Saturday snapped their six-game losing streak. The five runs they scored were the most they’d had in a game since their 8-7 defeat to Pacific on Feb. 25.
