Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Edo Ramen House in Royal Oak

(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 8, 2026)

Royal Oak, MI – Edo Ramen House is a Royal Oak staple for Asian Fusion, and a venue for both creative dishes and creative local artists and musicians.

A friend and I went for dinner, enjoying several of their amazing options.

We started with an appetizer of Maitake Mushrooms.  Maitake means Dancing Mushroom in Japaneese, and in the US they’re called Hen of the Woods because they grow in clusters that look like layers of feathers. Edo serves them up fried with a tempura coating and a sweet chili sauce.  We agreed that this was ridiculously good.

We ordered a few of the sushi choices to share.  My favorite was the Asparagus Roll, which was made tempura style.  My friend loved the California Roll, with imitation krab and avocado.  We also loved the Mad Hatter Vegan Roll, which featured sauteed mushrooms, vegan cream cheese, scallions, avocado, and spinach topped with chili garlic sauce.

My friend also got an order of garlic rice, which they assured me had robust garlic flavor.

And I decided to try their namesake dish – the ramen.  Ramen is a traditional Japanese noodle dish, with a choice of protein and a choice of broth styles.  I picked the chicken ramen with a creamy chicken broth called Tori Paitan.  The ramen had spinach, seaweed, green onion, corn, egg, and narutomaki.  Other protein choices are braised pork, shrimp, and tofu. Other broth choices include pork, bonito and kelp, miso, and mushroom broth.

Edo has an extensive menu, with lots of exciting dishes to try. There’s the Chicken Karaage, which is Japanese style fried chicken. The Takoyaki is a fried pastry filled with octopus. Asian Bowls include Longanisa (pinoy sweet sausage), Adobo (marinated chicken and pork), Lechon Kawali (crispy pork belly), Pan Seared Salmon and more.

For sushi and nigiri there are so many choices! The Firestarter Roll, for example, is made with shrimp tempura, avocado, pickled radish and Mookie paste topped with chili tuna salad and roasted garlic. The Alfie Roll has spicy tuna, avocado, shrimp tempura, and Japanese pickles with a spicy truffle oil. And the Ebichu Roll is made with salmon, avocado, and cucumber wrapped with shrimp and nori.

In addition to the delightful food, Edo Ramen House is known for showcasing works by local artists, as well as performances by musicians.

Edo Ramen House is located at 4313 W 13 Mile Rd in Royal Oak, MI.  At the time of this story, they don’t appear to have a website. But you can find them on Facebook and on Grubhub
