A man was arrested late Saturday night after crashing into an uninvolved Sacramento Police Department vehicle during a pursuit in south Sacramento, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
At approximately 9 p.m. Saturday, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle near 15th Avenue and 42nd after observing multiple traffic violations.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit ensued, with the driver turning off his headlights in order to conceal his vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
During the pursuit, the driver of the vehicle ran a stop sign at 8th Avenue and 43rd Street and crashed into an uninvolved Sacramento Police Department patrol vehicle. The crash forced the patrol vehicle into a residential fence and the suspect’s vehicle caught fire. The officer was uninjured.
The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended by deputies. He was medically cleared at a hospital and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony and misdemeanor charges, including felony evasion of a police officer while driving in a reckless manner. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
