An electric scooter was stolen after the owner was sprayed with a fire extinguisher this afternoon.

The incident happened near the intersection of Dwight Way and Hillegass Avenue around 2:47 p.m., according to a WarnMe sent to the campus community.

While riding their electric scooter on Dwight Way, the owner of the scooter was approached by two suspects. After using the fire extinguisher, the suspects fled the scene with the scooter.

The Berkeley Police Department is now investigating the crime, according to the WarnMe.

According to an advisory email sent to the campus community Jan. 30, property theft is the most-reported crime on college campuses. The advisory encouraged people to secure electric scooters properly using durable locks and report any suspicious activity near scooters or bike racks immediately.
