SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Leading wire to wire, No. 8 Long Beach State cruised to a 20-5 win over UC Santa Barbara on the road for its second conference win of the season.
Chiara Amoroso and Lucy Miszewski’s hat tricks led No. 8 Long Beach State (9-9, 2-1 Big West) to an early 6-0 lead before UC Santa Barbara (1-15, 0-4 Big West) got on the board with one minute left in the first period. Miszewski added her fourth of the day on a power play as LBSU led 7-1 after the first period.
The Beach continued to show strength on defense, leading to multiple counterattack opportunities and extending the lead to 13-1 at halftime. Grace Cuozzo, Daniela Quinzada, Brooklyn Plomp, Hailey Multz, and Elisa Portillo each added their first goal of the game.
Portillo added her second of the day to open the third quarter as Amoroso and Elyana Goren extended the lead to 16-1. The Gauchos ended the Beach’s 10-goal run with back-to-back power-play goals, making it 16-3 with one quarter remaining.
The final quarter started with both teams trading goals early before Gaby Patenaude and Plomp added back-to-back goals to extend the Beach’s lead to 19-4. UCSB added one more, but Quinzada’s late goal capped a dominant 20-5 win for Long Beach State on the road.
Chiara Amoroso and Lucy Miszewski scored a team-high four goals each in the win, while Elisa Portillo added a hat trick to go along with a team-high four assists. Polina Synytsia held the Gauchos to under 20% shooting as the freshman recorded nine saves and two steals.
