A man allegedly driving recklessly in a white box truck reported stolen led law enforcement officers on a pursuit the wrong way on the 60 and 10 freeways in eastern Los Angeles County early Monday before bailing out on a dead-end street in Baldwin Park.

The pursuit started when Whittier police observed the truck being driven recklessly in their jurisdiction, California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

The CHP picked up the pursuit at about 1:15 a.m., she said.

“He was all over the county on the east side,” Kravig said. The man drove the box truck the wrong way on the Pomona and San Bernardino freeways until he got off the San Bernardino Freeway and stopped on a dead-end street in the 3100 block of Frazier Street in Baldwin Park, she said.

The man bailed out and attempted to get away on foot but was taken into custody, Kravig said.

The suspect appeared unsteady when officers stood him up after he was handcuffed, in video from the scene.
