OAKLAND — Authorities on Monday identified the second person killed in a downtown mass shooting that happened early Saturday.
Markise Martin, 25, of Oakland, was fatally shot along with a woman in the gunfire at a downtown bar. Authorities said the shooting happened about 3:34 a.m. inside EZ’s Lounge on 412 14th Street. The bar is a short distance from City Hall.
Five other people were wounded in the shooting.
Martin died about 11:30 a.m. Saturday. He had been rushed to a hospital in an ambulance and treated there.
A 33-year-old woman who died in the shooting already had been identified by friends and others as Latetia “Teesh” Bobo, a beloved schoolteacher at the Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo. She died inside the bar. Police confirmed her identity publicly on Monday.
The killings were the 13th and 14th homicides investigated by Oakland police this year. On the same date in 2025, police had investigated 20 homicides.
Bobo and Martin were struck by bullets along with five other people. Authorities have not provided an update on the conditions of the other five. Four of the wounded, including Martin, were taken from the bar to area hospitals and two victims got their own transportation to hospitals.
Police said they recovered two handguns, one inside the bar and another outside of it. In their initial statement, police said they did not believe that any of the seven who were hit were the intended targets. Some of the victims knew each other, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not announced any arrests.
