BERKELEY, Calif. (March 9, 2026) – The Stonehill College’s women’s lacrosse team fell to California, 17–10, in its non-conference finale Wednesday night at California Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Skyhawks dropped to 3–5 overall, while the Golden Bears improved to 4–5 on the season.
 
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS


Senior Natalie Coutu led the Stonehill offensive effort, recording her second four-point game of the season with three goals and one assist.
Senior Grace Murphy notched her team-leading sixth multi-goal performance, scoring three goals for the fourth time this season.
First-year Sophia Gouveia scored her rookie-leading 15th goal and added a team-high five draw controls.
Senior Abby Hanifin, sophomore Jennaveve Koch, and first-year Taylor Green netted their second, sixth, and ninth goals of the season, respectively.
Junior Nina Tremonte made 10 saves in goal, while senior Kalliopi Maniatis collected a team-best three ground balls.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first quarter, the Golden Bears jumped out to an early three-goal lead. Stonehill responded late in the frame, as Murphy scored her team-leading 20th goal while a player-up with 4:51 remaining, cutting the deficit to two. Hanifin added her second goal of the season on a second player-up opportunity at 3:45, bringing the Skyhawks within one. Coutu closed the quarter with her 10th goal of the season, leaving Stonehill trailing 4-3 after the opening 15 minutes.

The second quarter saw back-and-forth action until 12:19, when Koch scored to tie the game at four. California responded with three consecutive goals over the next eight minutes to take a 7-4 lead. Coutu scored her second of the game in the final 30 seconds of the first half, trimming the Golden Bears’ advantage to 7-5 at halftime.

Stonehill carried momentum into the third quarter, scoring twice in three minutes to even the score at 7-7. Murphy tallied her second of the game 1:43 into the third, Gouveia added a player-up goal to tie the game once again. Tremonte came up big in goal, making four saves while allowing only one Golden Bears goal in the quarter. The period ended with California narrowly ahead, 8-7.

The Golden Bears opened the lead in the fourth, tallying nine goals to the Skyhawks’ three. Despite Coutu and Murphy completing their hat tricks at 8:10 and 1:00, respectively, the deficit proved insurmountable, as the Skyhawks fell by a final score of 17-10.

 

UP NEXT

Stonehill (3-5, 0-0 NEC) will now begin conference play by visiting Le Moyne (5-1, 0-0 NEC) on Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m.
