A 14-year-old Fresno High School student died after collapsing while playing basketball during a physical education class on Monday, authorities said.
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the teen on Tuesday as Daniel Padilla Jr. of Fresno.
The Fresno Unified School District confirmed the death, stating that the student passed away at the hospital.
“Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, and school community during this incredibly difficult time,” the district said in a statement.
School officials added that they do not have any additional information to share at this time.
The Fresno Police Department said that they received a call Monday at 12:23 p.m. regarding the incident.
Fresno Unified told GV Wire that the student was immediately attended to after the medical emergency occurred.
