The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department announced Tuesday a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect wanted in a deadly 2019 shooting outside a barber shop in Sylmar.
Murder suspect Omar Alexander Cardenas, 30, is on the FBI’s “10 Most Wanted Fugitives” list.
According to the FBI, Cardenas allegedly fired several rounds from a semi-automatic handgun at an unidentified victim on Aug. 15, 2019, near a large outdoor shopping center. The gunfire struck the victim in the head, killing him.
The increased reward for information leading to Cardenas’ arrest was announced at a Tuesday morning news conference where Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell detailed the crime.
Cardenas was charged with murder and a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 3, 2020, officials said.
He was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest on Sept. 2, 2021.
Authorities said Cardenas should be considered armed and dangerous.
He is described 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, weighing 240 to 300 pounds. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes and often has a beard. He wears prescription eyeglasses.
