A brutal attack outside a restaurant on Santana Row is being investigated as a possible hate crime, police said.

The incident was reported Sunday afternoon in front of Augustine Restaurant has rattled the South Bay’s Jewish community.

Video recorded by witnesses show two men being attacked by three others outside the restaurant.

The victims, who did not want their identities revealed, said they had been speaking Hebrew to each other then were suddenly attacked by other men.

“I turned around and they started punching,” a victim said.

The victims were briefly hospitalized and said they did not recognize the attackers.

Jewish Silicon Valley CEO Daniel Klein said the attack is the talk of his community and does not want any group to give into the violence of others.

“One of the things we really believe in here is that one of the ways of fighting anti-Semitism is actually unapologetic Jewish engagement,” Klein said.

The two men who were assaulted said they are working to help police find their attackers.
