Refillable grocery grand opening

East Hollywood—re_grocery, which features refillable grocery goods and zero-waste products, will hold a grand opening on Friday, March 13 for its new store at 774 Virgil Ave. in Virgil Village, said co-founder and CEO Joseph Macrino. Doors open at 9 a.m. The company’s fourth store is expected be similar to its Highland Park outlet on York Boulevard.

Echo Park—Vintage home-goods store Wares is set to open a new location in Echo Park at 1515 Sunset Blvd. The shop officially opens Saturday, March 21. To celebrate the launch, Wares will host a Live Concrete Pour Party on Thursday, March 19, beginning at 7 p.m. Guests can watch a live concrete pour installation while getting a first look inside the new space ahead of opening day. Meanwhile, Saturn Bridal – which once occupied the Wares location – has found a new storefront. The vintage bridal store is now located at 1333 Echo Park Ave.

Great Place to Work recognition

East Los Angeles—AltaMed Health Services says it has earned certification by Great Place To Work, which conducts employee surveys and ranks workplace environments. According to the organization’s most recent Trust Index Survey, 85% of employees said AltaMed is a great place to work — 28 points higher than the national average. The survey also found that 94% of employees feel good about how AltaMed contributes to the community and 89% say they are proud to tell others they work there. AltaMed, which has offices in Boyle Heights, East Hollywood and East Los Angeles, employs more than 5,700 people and offers services including dental care, women’s health, pediatrics and urgent care.

More than a corner store

Boyle Heights—Ray & Roy’s Market in Boyle Heights is becoming a neighborhood hub for shoppers seeking more than typical corner store fare. Under new owners Francisco Valderrama and Juan Carlos Luna, the historic shop at Fourth and Camulos streets sells Mexican wines, craft beer, vintage clothing and locally made gifts alongside everyday staples.
