SAN DIEGO, CA — One San Diego County hospital is among the 250 best in the world, according to a new ranking published recently by Newsweek.

The publication’s World’s Best Hospitals for 2026 list was released in late February and recognizes hospitals that display excellence in patient care, safety and clinical quality.

Five San Diego County hospitals were ranked among the top 150 in the U.S., while one ranked in the top 250 in the entire world.

The World’s Best Hospitals awards are presented by Newsweek in partnership with statistics provider Statista. The 2026 list highlights leading hospitals across 32 countries, selected based on factors such as standard of living, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.

Hospital awards are based on four primary data sources:

Recommendations from medical experts, based on surveys of doctors, health care professionals and hospital managers in 32 countries Results from patient satisfaction surveys Hospital quality metrics, including treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety and wait times Use of patient reported outcome measures to assess health status reported outcome measures to assess health status
