SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Jail records show the man accused of attacking San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie’s security detail has been released.
A judge ordered the release on Wednesday, after viewing now-viral videos of the incident.
Tony Phillips, 44, pleaded not guilty to a host of charges, including assaulting an officer.
Court documents say that last Thursday, Lurie got out of his car to talk to Phillips, who was blocking the street.

There was an argument before Lurie’s guard pushed Phillips, who then tackled the officer.
After watching the video, the judge said it was Phillips who was “violently attacked.”
Phillips’ attorney Ivan Rodriguez says Mayor Lurie was in the wrong for asking his client to move along.
“It doesn’t sit well. It’s not correct. It’s not right for a mayor to have done what he did, incite this confrontation, and this violence, and then now expect Mr. Phillips to pay for that,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez is asking the mayor to tell the district attorney to drop the charges.
On Wednesday night at a police event, Lurie said he would let the case “play out.”
San Francisco’s independent police watchdog is investigating the officers’ actions.
