Police said a 42-year-old driver in a Chevrolet truck heading east on Balboa entered the intersection on a green light and began to make a left turn onto northbound Viewridge Avenue. At the same time, the motorcyclist was heading west on Balboa approaching Viewridge and entered the intersection against a red light, police said.

The rider collided with the front of the truck and suffered critical injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he died.

The name of the man who died has not been released. Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.
