OAKLAND — A Bay Area man was sentenced to eight years in state prison after pleading no contest to sexual abuse of a girl who was 12 at the time, court records show.

Alonso Capuchino-Paneda, 23, pleaded no contest to sexual abuse and burglary charges in exchange for the prison term, which was imposed on March 2. In exchange for his pleas, prosecutors dropped more serious sex abuse charges, records show.

In August 2023, when he was 21, Capuchino-Paneda was caught in a parked car with a 12-year-old girl at the Redwood Bowl Staging Area in the Oakland hills, authorities said. When police pressed him, he admitted to “hooking up” with the girl and said they’d met at a party years earlier, according to a police report filed in court.

He eventually confessed to specific acts of sex abuse that occurred over several meet-ups, authorities said.

Capuchino-Paneda must register as a sex offender, and was given about four-and-a-half years credit for time served in jail while the case was pending, records show.
