MILL VALLEY, CA — Five-time Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter Sam Smith is in the middle of a 20-show residency at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre that runs through mid-March, but in their free time they have been documenting their Bay Area culinary adventures on @samserved, a food-focused Instagram account.
Four of Smith’s 10 restaurant visits to date have been in Marin County, starting with poke, ceviche, oysters, fish and chips, and a burrito in the beer garden at Hook Fish Co. in Mill Valley.
They have also visited Sol Food in Mill Valley and enjoyed their fresh sparkling limeade and a bistec sandwich, sitting on the grass outside.
“We’re here right now in the incredible Mill Valley, which is so beautiful. Sun is out. It’s so nice. I just went for a beautiful swim on my day off, and now I’m famished, and I’ve heard about this spot. It’s called Sol Food, and I’ve heard about it from so many people,” Smith kicked off the video saying.
They then entered the restaurant and perused their merchandise, grabbing a bottle of their homemade pique. They then got their food and headed outside to enjoy it in the warm Marin County weather.
“That is by far the best steak sandwich I’ve ever eaten. It feels lighter. It doesn’t feel as rich as steak sandwiches I’ve had before. The avocado and the way that it’s been cooked and the bread, it’s delicious,” Smith said in the video.
Smith has also visited Mill Valley’s Shoreline Coffee Shop for a smoked salmon scramble, cochinita pork egg-a-muffin, and Stumptown coffee; and they stopped by Sam’s Anchor Cafe in Tiburon for New England clam chowder, fried calamari and a Dirty Bird grilled chicken sandwich with malted tang chips.
